CDE Webinar – Professor Norman Fenton

On Thursday 17th December, we were delighted to have Professor Norman Fenton, Queen Mary London University, present his webinar entitled, ‘Why Big Data and AI machine learning will never work for critical problems of risk assessment – causal reasoning and knowledge to the rescue’. Norman is a well-respected and widely published author with over 300 articles and 7 books, including “Risk Assessment and Decision Analysis using Bayesian Networks”. He has applied his approach, which can be summarized as ‘smart data rather than big data’ to a wide range of fields and has a special interest in raising public awareness of the importance of probability theory and Bayesian reasoning in everyday life.

Further information and details of the wider webinar series is online at https://digitalenvironment.org/cde-webinar-series.

Our next webinar is planned for 14th January 2021, when Professor Karl Claxton will present his talk ‘Lessons from applying decision science in the public health sector’. Reserve your place now.
