Hi
I am looking at developing 3D VR geological outcrops that can be run without highspec gaming computers.
I have plenty of geologists, and some expertise in building and developing VR outcrops, but I could do with more digital expertise in those fields and EDI expertise.
Thanks

Hi Anne,
We are building a team thinking about using accessible VR for environmental science fieldtrips. Let me know if you are interested, and I can email you some more information.
Best wishes,

HI
Thanks for getting in touch Emily, sorry for the slow reply. I appear to have run out of time. I have a small group I am working with and we will see what we can do on our own. As always teaching has swamped me and I’ve run out of time.
Good luck with your project

Hi Anne,
No worries, I didn’t see your post until very late anyway. Good luck with your group, I hope the project goes well
Best wishes,

We have developed VR for fieldwork with drone data with SFM and imagery/DEM and have developed some workflows and software: see http://www.3dtelc.com. It was an Erasmus+ funded project: https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/erasmus-plus/projects/eplus-project-details/#project/2017-1-UK01-KA203-036719

HI Malcom,
Thanks for getting on touch. What you have done looks great. And similar to waht we would like to do. Athough the images/ 3d models on the website aren’t high enough resoloution for the work we want to do. I have a few questions about the software. Is it possible to ‘stack’ multiple photo-drapped DEMS, so you can zoom into images at differnet resolutions, a bit like GoogleEarth? Do students require high spec laptops to view the 3D images? Does it use Unity?
Are you looking to be a technical mentor? or are you developing your own project? Thanks and best wishses

The softare loads single layer DEM with image drape (usually drone acquired) and would need to be adapted to deal with multi-images. We did want to try and deal with multiple images and be able to switch between them overlayed on the DEM. The VR experience allowed walking and flying (drone like) plus mapping capabilities (point, line polygon) and export to GIS.
It uses high spec laptops/Pcs with oculus headsets but we had some prototypes that ran on mormal computers – onscreen without VR headsets using keyboard controls. Yes we used unity.
I dont have a project of my own but happy to be involved on another project if I can be of help.

HI
Its good to hear what you have been doing. Let me talk to my colleages.I think we may need to use something different as there isn’t much time to develop software and I need to spend money on a post-doc!
Thanks for your interest.Anne
