CDE Webinar Series Update

We had a fantastic finish to the first of our Webinar series ‘Data for Decision Making’ when Professor Karl Claxton presented his most informative talk on Lessons from applying decision science in the public health sector.

This presentation followed the earlier webinars from Professor Sam L Savage (The Flaw of Averages and How to Cure It), Douglas W Hubbard (The value of information and how to decide what and how much you should be measuring) and Professor Norman Fenton (Why Big Data and AI machine learning will never work for critical problems of risk assessment – causal reasoning and knowledge to the rescue). We were most grateful to Expert Network member Dr Keith Shepherd for organising this webinar series. All of the videos for these talks are made available on the CDE Webinar page.

We now look forward to the next webinar series, being organised by Expert Network member Dr Burcu Yüksel Ripley. This series is entitled ‘Law and Ethics in the Digital Environment’ and will draw on the experiences and expertise of internationally renowned speakers who will provide insights and perspectives on a range of legal and ethical issues which can be relevant to the digital environment. This will include challenges and potential solutions to issues relating to cybersecurity, intellectual property, privacy, human rights, competition and digital ethics.

The first two presentations will be held on February 25th, when Charles-Albert Helleputte will present his talk Is EU cybersecurity the missing piece to sustainable digital environment, and March 18th when Professor Abbe Brown will present her talk Just because you can? Balancing the rights and regimes relevant to the digital environment.
