CDE Webinar – Dr Michael Pocock and team. The DECIDE Project – Precision Citizen Science: Co-designing adaptive sampling to optimise biodiversity

Decide stands for ‘Delivering Enhanced Biodiversity Information with Adaptive Citizen Science and Intelligent Digital Engagements’. The project concerns Precision Citizen Science: Co-designing adaptive sampling to optimise biodiversity

On Friday 3rd February 2023, we were pleased to welcome Dr Michael Pocock, UKCEH (PI); Dr Tom August, Computational Ecologist, UKCEH; Dr Susan Jarvis, Quantitative Ecologist, UKCEH; Dr Simon Rolph, Data Scientist, UKCEH; Professor Cagatay Turkay, University of Warwick; and Dr Rachel Pateman, Stockholm Environment Institute, University of York. This talk continues our sixth ‘CDE Demonstrator Projects’ webinar series.

It is very important to improve biodiversity to tackle the ongoing challenges of climate change. To achieve this, we should include high quality, fine-resolution, spatial biodiversity information in our decision making. Within this project, we will construct good biodiversity models from the available data, and preferentially target effort to add records from times and places that optimally improve the model outputs. Fine resolution distribution of models for about 1000 insect species around the UK will be produced in this model. Our workflows will be implemented in a data lab, that can be adapted for any environmental data.
