CDE Webinar – Dr Jenny Brown and team. The CreamT Project – Wave Overtopping Hazards

On Friday 11th October, we were pleased to welcome Dr. Jenny Brown from the National Oceanography Centre and project lead; Dr. Christopher Stokes from the University of Plymouth; Dr Louise Darroch, from the British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC) in the National Oceanography Centre; Dr Timothy Poate a coastal research consultant from the University of Plymouth; and Dr. Sarah Hymas, writer and maker, to present their webinar entitled ‘The CreamT Project – Wave Overtopping Hazards‘. This talk continues our sixth ‘CDE Demonstrator Projects’ webinar series.

With ongoing climate change and extreme events, coastal population is extremely vulnerable to floods, coastal erosion risks and sea level rise. Better ways to measure, forecast, warn of and respond faster to such flooding events are very important. Within CreamT, by using cameras, a wirewall, wirewands and LW B-Scan, near real time coastal overtopping hazard alerts were issued by in situ monitoring systems. The measured, visual and audio data has been used in an interactive coastal walk, and made accessible through an Augmented Reality (AR) phone application.
