This masterclass will be led by Dr Hua Zhong of Nottingham Trent University (hua.zhong@ntu.ac.uk) with special guest speaker Professor Tim Broyd, FREng., Director of Institute for Digital Innovation in the Built Environment, UCL and Dr Ling Ma of UCL (Ling.Ma@ucl.ac.uk).

1:10pm – Talk by Prof. Tim Broyd
1:40pm – 2:10pm Demonstration 1: Generating 3D model (photogrammetry) and viewing in VR
Required devices: a mobile phone and a laptop.
Required applications: Sketchfab, SCANN3D/PolyCam applications will need to be installed on the mobile phone.
Steps:
- Download and install a 3D scanner application using App store (for Android users, SCANN3D; for Apple users, PolyCam).
- Download and install Sketchfab using App store.
- Use the 3D scanner application to scan an object (take your time, follow the instructions and take many pictures).
- Export your model using the “.obj” format (choose the free trail option, please remember to cancel it after this session).
- Create a Sketchfab account on https://sketchfab.com/
- Using your laptop, upload the model exported (the zip file) from your 3D scanner app to Sketchfab.
- Open the mobile application “sketchfab”. Attach Google cardbox and open your model and view it in VR.
2:10 pm-2:40 pm Introduction and Demonstration 2: Digital twin in transportation infrastructure
Steps:
- Brief introduction of digital twin algorithms for roads and cities and several related applications based on road digital twins.
- Present road widening .exe program for highway widening based on digital twin.
- Present road alignment planning process based on digital twin.
- Present coloured bridge .exe program in the CIM environment.
